From the album of a soldier of 270.Inf.-Rgt (93.Inf.-Div.). 93.Inf.-Div. is a poorly documented unit (in published materials I mean). Its divisional history, Der Weg der 93.Inf.Div. 1939-1945 has only 32 pages of text. However, the division, as well as other units of Wehrmacht, had a very nice Christmas brochure in 1941, which is very good source of information. Here is a page from the brochure to show the movement of the division in August 1941.

The division adapted a very prominent unit marking in black-red-white (this marking stems from division's breakthrough of Maginot line, says Schmitz/Thies Band 4, S.311). Use of this symbol was terminated by end of Apr. 1943 by the order of OKH. Schmitz/Thies shows two more markings from the division. One of them is 4 T's aligned to 4 directions making a symbol similar to a shooting sight (attributed to the Division's commander Gen.Lt. Tiemann. It came into usage in Apr. 1943, says the book according to OKH/GenStdH./Org.Abt.Nr.I/1995/43 g.Kdos. vom 22.4.1943 - Festsetzen notwendiger Truppenkennzeichen in einfachster Form durch die Heeresgruppen. However, I do not agree with this date because the picture supposedly taken in 1941 shows both markings very clearly. We know that we have to be very doubtful about the arrangement of pictures in private albums, still I believe this is 1941. Gen.Lt. Tiemann had already been its commander in 1941, so there is no contradiction.

Here is an interesting picture of a turret of Panzer I used as a strongpoint, in dug-in position.

Here are photos from accompanying Sturmgeschütze Abteilung, as shown in Panzerblatt (Armor Modelling magazine), November 2000 issue. These are from 2.Batterie, Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 185. Guns are seen moving out of a road, marching on a road, parking under trees. Following pictures show the graves of the soldiers from the regiment dated August 1941. So these photographs of StuG. were most probably taken during July 1941. StuG.185 used geometric shapes, circle for 2.Batterie, to distinguish Batterie. Other Batterien used square and triangle.
